Matt showed Chauncey remarkable kindness that day. “This kid looked like he had been turned down 100 times. He looked ashamed, hungry and broken. In my heart I screamed a loud “yes!”, but to him I just chuckled and said, “yeah dude, we’ll get you some donuts.”
It started with the donuts, but Matt ended up taking Chauncey on a shopping spree in the store. He offered the teen a ride home and soon discovered that Chauncey had no phone and a hungry, ill mother at home. They had little furniture and Chauncey, a straight-A student, was trying to get a job to help improve their lives.
Matt left their home that day and started a GoFundMe that eventually raised more than $300,000 dollars. Chauncey was even able to start his lawn mowing business.
